Burton Toyne Jefferson formerly of Grand Junction Date of Death: October 26, 2017 A Memorial Service for Burton Toyne, 94, of Jefferson formerly of Grand Junction will be 10:30 am Monday, October 30, 2017 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Burial will take place at a later date at Lanesboro Cemetery, Lanesboro, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Grand Junction Lions Club. Online condolences may be left at www.sliningerschroeder.com. Burton Toyne was born October 6, 1923 in Greene County, Iowa. He was the sixth of eight children born to Edward Arthur and Irene (Frost) Toyne. Burton was a graduate of Lanesboro High School in Lanesboro, Iowa. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, and a Master of Science degree from the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. Burton taught high school in Rinard, Otho, Rowan, Arcadia, Churdan and Grand Junction. He was involved in many sports including both boys and girls basketball, football, volleyball and track. Grand Junction High School named a track meet in his honor. Burton retired in 1988. Burton was an active member of the Lions Club in Grand Junction. He sold many pies to local residents. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and attended many bowl games. He enjoyed his family gatherings with parents, sisters, brothers and their families. He liked to travel, taking three trips to Brazil to visit the boys he sponsored through Children’s Christian Fund. He traveled to most of the states in the United States. Burton Toyne died October 26, 2017 at the Greene County Long Term Care Center. He was 94 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents; six sisters: Vera Johnston, Mildred Henrichs, Irma Davenport, Aileen Gerdes, Pat Henrichs and Mavis Morris; and one brother, Merle Toyne. Survivors include sister-in-law Eleanor Toyne, brother-in-law Frank Morriss, and a host of nieces nephews and friends. Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home 515-386-2171
