Clyde Lane

April 4, 1931 - February 3, 2022

Clyde Curtis Lane Date of Death: Feb. 3, 2022 Graveside services and military rites for Clyde Lane, age 90, will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Jefferson Cemetery. Rev. Kim Nofel of First Presbyterian Church will preside. Family and friends should gather at the graveside by 10:15am Tuesday. Clyde Curtis Lane, known as “Buzz”, was born in Jefferson, Iowa on April 4, 1931 to Edna (Coon) and Elmer Lane. Clyde Lane was wounded at Heartbreak Ridge in Korea on November 4, 1952. He spent four months in Yokohama, Japan. He lost his left eye and had shrapnel in his face. He was sent to Brooks Army Hospital and stayed there one month. He lost hearing in right ear and had shrapnel in his jaw. He got home and went to work on the Highway Department with his father. He later started working at the post office until he was transferred to Sac City. While living in Jefferson, Clyde loved to fix up and sell the houses he and his family lived in. He was a very talented handyman. He finally got his dream house, a 40 acre farm outside of Jefferson where his kids grew up. Clyde was a talented woodworker, making blackpowder rifles and also a set of replica miniture rifles. He also loved to fish and bow hunt. Clyde was married to Alyce Brown on August 15, 1952 in Grand Junction, Iowa. They were the parents of three children: Neal, Dave, and Cindi. They lived in Jefferson for several years where Buzz worked for the Post Office as custodian. Buzz and Alyce moved to Sac City in 1976 and he retired in 1986. They moved to Lake View in 1995. During retirement, Buzz and Alyce would get in their camper and head to Minnesota and Canada where they would fish. Buzz and Alyce loved traveling together. Clyde Lane died February 3, 2022 at Holstein, Iowa. He was 90 years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alyce; his daughter, Cindi Cummings; and brother, Rich Lane. Clyde is survived by his sons: David Lane (Mary) of Algona, IA and Neal Lane (Debra Frey) of Reedsburg, WI; five grandchildren: Kelley Lowe (Billy) of Jefferson, IA; Kristen Russell (Paul “P.J.” of Jefferson, IA; Kale Cummings (Ashlee) of West Des Moines, IA; Nick Lane (Jessica) of Algona, IA; and Jake Lane (Casey) of Algona, IA; eleven great-grandchildren: Addyson Lane, Camden Lane, Maggie Lane, Eleanor Lane, Kaden Lowe, Tegan Lowe, William Lowe, Tori Lowe, Tia Lowe (Ben), Collin Russell and Lane Russell; one great-great-grandson, Wrenly. Also surviving are two brothers: Bill Lane (Pat) of Urbandale, IA and Ron Lane (Pat) of Des Moines, IA; sister, Pat Triplett of Mesa, AZ; sister and brother-in-law ,Audrey and Merrill Larsh of Las Vegas, NV; other relatives and friends.
