Memorial services for David Newell, 46, of Jefferson, will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday January 18, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson. Memorials are suggested to Jefferson Little League or Greene County Medical Center Hospice. David Newell was born February 1, 1959 in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Samuel and Marvel (Bartley) Newell. David attended school in Jefferson, graduating with the class of 1977. He worked at Pete and Paul’s Deep Rock Station, and at Ball’s Gas Station during his school years. Dave worked for Shriver Construction and later, Wolterman Construction before starting his own business of Newell Plumbing and Heating. He married Colleen Kuebler at St. Joseph Catholic Church on August 23, 1980. They became the parents of three children, and spent their married life in the Jefferson community. Dave had several other business ventures, including N & S Construction, and Power Wash Car Wash and The Laundry Depot, with business partner and friend Jim Springer. Dave also had worked at the Frigidaire Factory in Jefferson. Most recently, Dave was employed by Mr. Car Wash of Des Moines, Iowa. Dave was a past member of B.P.O.E. Lodge of Jefferson, and Raccoon Bend Golf Club in Jefferson. He was a member of the Jefferson volunteer fire department, and was very active with the Jefferson Little League program. David Newell died January 15, 2006 at the Greene County Medical Center, at the age of 46 years. His grandparents preceded him in death. Survivors include his children, Rachel Newell of Ankeny, Brittany Newell of Jefferson and Darin Newell of Jefferson; his parents, Sam and Marvel Newell of Jefferson; five sisters: Linda (David) Fountain of Grand Junction, Peggy (Dick) Moranville of Jefferson, Deb (Gary) Turner of Jefferson, Diane (Curt) Bergemann of Jefferson, and Julie (Jerry) Raaz of Iowa City; best friend, Collette Unger of Jefferson and her sons, Rex and Cole Unger; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
