Eldon "Doc" Nelson

March 23, 2005

Funeral services for Eldon “Doc” Nelson, 60, of Jefferson, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 26, 2005 at Central Christian Church in Jefferson, with burial at the Jefferson Cemetery. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 1:00 p.m. Friday. The family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends between 5:00 -8:00 p.m. Friday. Eldon Roscoe “Doc” Nelson was born January 31, 1945 at Ottumwa, Iowa. He was the son of Roscoe and Darlene (Dobson) Nelson. Eldon was baptized as an infant in the Lutheran faith. Later, upon confirming his faith in the Central Christian Church, he was baptized with his parents in the Raccoon River south of Jefferson, Iowa. Eldon received his basic education in the Jefferson Community School System. He received his post-secondary education from Boone Community College and Palmer College of Chiropractic. He also attended the Colorado School of Trade for gunsmithing. On June 17, 1967, Eldon was united in marriage to Donna Rae Smith of Goldfield, Iowa. Their first son, Shawn Brent Nelson was born March 3, 1972 in Jefferson, Iowa and their second son, Shane Ray Nelson was born March 6, 1975 in Denver, Colorado, while Eldon was attending gunsmithing school. Prior to settling in Greene county, Iowa in 1981, the family also resided in Tennessee and Arkansas. Eldon was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who was blessed with many friends. His pastimes were numerous, but to name a few, he loved spending time with his family and friends; he enjoyed outdoor activities, carpentry and woodworking, including restoring antique furniture and home remodeling projects. He also had a passion for cooking, whether it be for his family or for the guests at the Limburg House Bed and Breakfast, of which he was co-innkeeper with his wife, Donna. It was also not uncommon to see Eldon putting a puzzle together, playing cards or cheering on his favorite driver at the racetrack. Eldon died Mach 23, 2005 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. He was 60 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Ray and Jane Duitscher of Clarion, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Armour of Humboldt, Iowa. Eldon is survived by his wife, Donna, of Jefferson, IA; two sons: Shawn and wife, Shirley, of Omaha, Nebraska; Shane and wife, Jessica, of Collins, Iowa; a brother: Ross and wife, Suzanne, of Sioux Center, IA; four grandchildren: Rachel, Ashley and Zachary, all of Omaha, Nebraska, and Araya of Collins, Iowa.
