Elmer Nahnsen

Elmer John Nahnsen was born August 12, 1905 in Dawson Township, Greene County, Iowa. He was the son of Broder Nahnsen and Mary Meyer Nahnsen. Elmer finished country school, then farmed with his father. On November 28, 1935 in Chariton, Iowa, Elmer married Margaret Fennell of Corydon. They became the parents of one child. Elmer farmed on the farm in Dawson Township until he and Margaret retired in 1971. Ten years later they moved into Jefferson. Elmer and Margaret loved to dance and spent many happy hours together on the dance floor. He was a past member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Paton, and belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. Margaret passed away in 1996. In June of 2004, Elmer left his home at Greenewood and became a resident at the Jefferson Manor. There he died on June 16, 2006 at the age of 100 years. Preceding him in death were his brothers W.C. Nahnsen, and Lawrence Nahnsen; sisters Clara Nahnsen, and Pauline Nahnsen Seil; his parents; wife Margaret, and son-in-law Bob Wilson. Survivors include his daughter Ellen Wilson of Jefferson; grandchildren Vicki Appleby and her husband David of Frisco, TX; Debbie Wilson and fiancé Rande Roberts of Webster City, IA; and Rob Wilson and his wife Heather of Paton, IA; great-grandchildren Annessa and Logan Rexroat of Webster City, IA; Alexa and Chase Appleby of Frisco, TX; and Brandon and Derek Wilson of Paton, IA.
