Services for Ferne Potter, 98, of Jefferson, will be 10:30 am Tuesday November 29, 2005 at First United Methodist Church, Jefferson. Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday at the church prior to the funeral, and, again at the church, following the burial. Friends are welcome to call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday. Ferne Elizabeth Potter was born February 10, 1907 on a farm in Hardin Township, Greene County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph Brannen and Edith Forbes Brannen. Ferne attended rural school, then graduated from Jefferson High School in 1921. She attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and graduated with Normal Training. She taught school for one year at Farlin. On May 25, 1930, Ferne and Roy Allen Potter were united in marriage at the home of the bride’s parents. They spent their lives in Jefferson. Ferne worked at several locations in Jefferson, including Potter Drug Store, and Ryerson Clothing. Ferne loved to do needle point. She made many afghans over the years. She also loved her flower garden, and she enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at the Greene County Medical Center. Ferne was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. She belonged to Evening Star Chapter #107 O.E.S., and was a member of Beta Tau Delta. Ferne Potter died November 25, 2005 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Greene County Medical Center. She was 98 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Roy; a brother, Floyd Brannen; and a grandson, Stan Potter. Surviving is one son, Joe Potter of Jefferson, IA; four grandchildren: Kathy Kaufman of Cedar Rapids, IA; Kelly Trumpold of Amana, IA; David Potter of San Bernardino, CA; and Brian Potter of Glendora, CA; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to Greene County Medical Center, First United Methodist Church, or American Cancer Society.
