Funeral services for Jessie Jean Rogers, 82, of Jefferson, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday July 10, 2006 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 11:30 am Sunday. The family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends between 6:00 – 7:30pm Sunday. Memorials are suggested to Webb House, Greene County Medical Center Foundation Public Health, or Grand Junction Swimming Pool. Jessie Jean Rogers, daughter of Gilbert and Gertrude Thompson Potter, was born September 20, 1923 in Jefferson, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Jefferson, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1942. She taught country school before becoming a bookkeeper for the Jefferson Creamery. At the home of her parents, on February 6, 1949, Jean married Richard Rogers. The couple farmed for many years in the Dana area and moving to Grand Junction in 1960. She was an active member of the Dana Methodist Church and the Grand Junction United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, participated in the Woman’ Group and helped with the MYF youth. She also received the “Special Mission Recognition Pin.” Jean was also a member of the Rebekahs and Past Noble Grand’s. She was a homemaker, babysat for families in the area and was an avid gardener. Jean died July 6, 2006 at the Greene County Long Term Care Center. She was 82 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Richard, in 2005; two brothers Wayne and Milford; three sisters Ida Smith, Zeta Ladd and Gladys Teagarden; and a son-in-law John Wauson. Survivors include three daughters, Janice (John) Wauson of Urbandale, Linda (Steve) Smith of Jefferson, and Cynthia (Bob) Grosing of Urbandale; 5 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
