Services for Juanita Hollar, 90, of Paton, will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, with interment at Richland Twp. Cemetery in Guthrie County. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 9:00am Thursday. The family will greet friends at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home from 7:00 – 9:00pm Thursday. Juanita Arrena Helen Brody Hollar was born August 26, 1915 at home in Ocheyedan, Iowa. She was the daughter of Freddrick Pugh Brody and Sarah Arrena Gilmore Brody. Juanita lived in Ocheyedan until age 4, then moved to a farm at Allendorf, Iowa. She moved in with her sister, Lydia, and lived there until her freshman year at which time she moved back home. Juanita worked for room and board at Getty’s in Sibley so she could finish high school. She received her teaching certificate and moved to Downer Groves, IL for 1 ½ years and worked in a grocery store. She moved back to Iowa and took a teaching job at Herndon, IA where she taught the first four grades for two years. On May 25, 1938, Juanita was united in marriage with Harold Wayne Hollar at the Greene County Court House, Jefferson, Iowa. They were parents of five children: Arrena, William (Bill), Dale, Karen, and Mary. The couple made their home on Harold’s parents’ farm north of Herndon, Iowa in the early years of their marriage and then lived on various farms in the Greene and Guthrie County area. They moved to Clinton, Minnesota in 1947 and farmed for 13 years. They moved back to Iowa in 1960 and farmed north of Bagley. Juanita and Harold retired from farming in 1971 and moved to the Hollar family farm north of Herndon where they had originally started their married life. Harold died in 1985. Juanita made her home at the farm until 1997 at which time she moved in with her sister, Ruby, in Bagley, Iowa. In 1999, Juanita moved to Paton and lived with her daughter, Karen, and son-in-law, Doug. Juanita was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Iowa. For several years she also belonged to Herndon’s Ladies Aid and the Bagley Federated Garden Club. Juanita Hollar died February 28, 2006 at Paton, Iowa. She was 90 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold, two brothers: Gordon Brody and Clifford Brody; two sisters: Lydia Doerr and Ruby Moses; three grandsons: James and Patrick Hollar, and Kevin Wenger; and one granddaughter, Kim Hollar. Survivors include her five children: Arrena Martinson and her husband Wayne of Lakewood, CA; Bill Hollar and his wife Arlene of Charles City, IA; F. Dale Hollar and his wife Sue of Peru, IA; Karen Wenger and her husband Doug of Paton, IA and Mary Hartmann and her husband Dick of Tiskilwa, IL. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred Brody and his wife Norma of Seattle, WA; two sisters-in-law: Rosie Hollar of Jefferson and Wilma Scheuermann of Parkers Prairie, MN; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
