Services for LaVerne “Woody” Wood, 81, of Scranton, Iowa, will be 10:00 am Friday, October 27, 2006 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Wright Cemetery. Visitation begins after 1:00 pm Thursday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, where his family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 – 9:00pm Thursday. LaVerne “Woody” Wood, son of Archie Wood and Genevieve Scrggins Wood was born May 23, 1925 at Lake City, Iowa. Woody entered eternal life on October 23, 2006 at his home in Scranton, Iowa at the age of 81 years. Woody grew up in Lake City and after school worked for Calhoun County for a short while. He then moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa where he worked as truck driver for Fort Dodge Lime Company. Following that he moved to Grand Junction and worked for Alan Pound as truck driver for about 20 years. Woody married Juanita Faye Hurley on June 21, 1976 at Jackson, Minnesota. He loved his family, truck driving, and car races Woody was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Delbert; brother-in-law Ed Johnson; sisters-in-law Wanda Wood and Dorothy Wood; son-in-law Bob Strabley; grandson Tanner Wolfe, and his first wife Della Mae. Woody is survived by his wife Faye; brothers Gary (Shirley) Wood of Columbus, IN and Phil Wood of Glasgow, KY; sister Judy Johnson of Ankeny, IA; step-children Mike (Gayle) Greco of Perry, IA; Grace Smith of Austin, TX; Chris Strabley of Council Bluffs, IA; Charlene (Don) Wolfe of Bagley, IA; Pat (Linda) Hurley of Jefferson, IA; Jim Hurley of Rutland, IA; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephew, and friends.
