Funeral services for Maxine Stevens, 92, of Jefferson, formerly of Rippey, will be 2:00 pm Friday January 26, 2007 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Rippey Cemetery. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 12:00 noon Thursday, where the family will greet friends between 6:00 -8:00pm Thursday. Catherine Maxine Riley Stevens was born December 6, 1914 at Rippey, Iowa. She was the daughter of B.M. “Max” Riley and Grace King Riley. Maxine graduated from Rippey High School in 1932. She married H.S. “Steve” Stevens at Leon, Iowa in 1937. Maxine and Steve made their home on a farm three miles south of Rippey. They became the parents of two sons. Maxine did clerical work at the Rippey Savings Bank, and then was a clerk at the Stevens and Kelly Sale Barn in Rippey. Later she became office manager at Stevens & Sons; Machinery Auction. In 1965 Maxine was hired by Hank Parker to be the office manager at Parker Industries in Jefferson. Later she became the western division sales manager for Parker Industries. She retired in 1985. Maxine enjoyed reading, and playing the piano. In 1991 she and her husband entered Long Term Care at the Greene County Medical Center. Steve died in 1993. Maxine Stevens died January 20, 2007 at the age of 92 years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Captain James “Dennis” Stevens, and her brother Edward Riley. Surviving is her son, Max Stevens of Tallahassee, Florida; 5 grandchildren, Blake Stevens, Houston, Texas; Allison McGhy, Johnston, Iowa; Chris Stevens, Tallahassee, Florida; Greg Stevens, Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Chad Stevens, Tallahassee, Florida and 5 great-grandchildren.
