Warren Raver

Services for Warren Raver, 89,of Jefferson, will be 10:00am Tuesday November 7 at Central Christian Church in Jefferson, with burial in the Jefferson Cemetery. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 3:00 pm Monday. Warren Edward Raver, son of Earl and Bernice Lyon Raver was born October 12, 1917 in Jefferson, Iowa. Warren graduated from Jefferson High School in 1935 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for one year. He went to work in the Greene County Engineer’s Office and remained there until 1983 except for the years he served in the Army. Warren was married to Joyce Averill on June 4, 1939 at the Averill farm in Bristol Township. To this union were born two sons, Stephen and John, and a daughter, Karen. In 1944, Warren was called to serve his county in the Anti Aircraft Unit at Savanna, Georgia. His foreign duty was in Italy. Warren returned home in July of 1946 when he was honorably discharged. Warren was a member of Central Christian Church. He served on the church board, was a deacon and served on many church committees during his lifetime. Warren was a 60-year member of the Floyd Brown American Legion Post #11 in Jefferson. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed all sports, and was an enthusiastic observer for all the town youth. Warren Raver died November 4, 2006 at the Greene County Medical Center. He was 89 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents, and two infant sisters. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Joyce Raver of Jefferson, IA; son Stephen Raver and his wife Georgene of Ankeny, IA; daughter Karen Kinsman and her husband Craig of Cincinnati, OH; son John Raver and his wife Joan of San Antonio, TX; 7 grandchildren: David Raver and wife Tammy of Ankeny, IA; Lori Leach and husband Darin of Ankeny, IA; Emily Colwell and husband Scott of Fairfield, OH; Scott Kinsman and wife Jenn of Graham, NC; Jill Raver, Jan Raver, and Jaimee Raver, all of San Antonio, TX; 7 great-grandchildren, a sister, Lois Larson of San Jose, CA; other relatives and many friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Central Christian Church or the Greene County Medical Center Auxiliary.
