Funeral services for William “Bill” Dunivan, 87, of Jefferson, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2006 at Central Christian Church in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 1:00 p.m. Thursday. The family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends from 6:00 – 9: 00 p.m. Thursday. William Burnett Dunivan was born September 2, 1918 on a farm near Scranton, Iowa. He was the son of Walter Dunivan and Verna Bishop Dunivan. Bill graduated from Cooper High School on June 7, 1934, where he was the only boy in a class with seven girls. In 1940, Bill joined the National Guard, then was called to active duty February 10, 1941. He was a radio operator. Bill was wounded in action in Italy February 13, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart. Sgt. Dunivan was honorably discharged August 2, 1945. On August 11, 1946, Bill married June Barnett. They became the parents of two children: Tim Alan and Joy DeeAnn. Bill was a carpenter most of his life. He worked for local construction companies, and retired from Shriver Construction in 1982. Bill really enjoyed gardening. At one time he had over 200 roses and 300 irises. He also enjoyed fishing and taking his grandsons Justin and Tim Waters to Boone to the stock car races. Bill Dunivan died May 30, 2006 at the Jefferson Manor. He was 87 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and his son, Tim. Survivors include his wife, June of Jefferson; daughter, Joy Fox and her husband Randy of Jefferson; a brother, Wendell (Stub) Dunivan and his wife Norma of Jefferson; two grandsons: Justin Waters and his fiancé Liz Haluska, both of Cedar Falls; Tim Waters of Jefferson; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
